About Our Firm

Who We Are

We could devote page after page of our website trying to convince you that we are better than every other law firm, or that we have the toughest, smartest attorneys around.  We could tout that our firm has existed for an eternity, or that we have so many lawyers our office directory looks like a phone book.  But that would make us like everyone else.  Besides, would that really make you feel any better or help address your legal problems?

The truth is O'Diam, Stecker & Sove Law Group is a small law firm striving to provide our clients with an exceptional experience in planning for their future.  We are regular people, just like you.  Every day we struggle to overcome the negative perception of lawyers.  Rather than just “say” we are different, we try hard to demonstrate it every day, one client at a time.  We want our clients to experience a real feeling of “wow, there really are attorneys out there who genuinely care and are passionate about helping me!”

Most people who come to our office assume that we are reasonably intelligent (which we are) and that we have sufficient experience to help them with their problem (which we do).  You can view our individual biographies if you want more details about our education and experience.

But we know that we cannot be everything for everyone.  We don’t try to be.  The days of being a “general practitioner” – and being good at it – are gone.  In today’s world, you can either know a little bit about a lot of topics, or know a lot about a few topics.  You will not find us in court in the morning, meeting with a divorce client in the afternoon and then preparing a Last Will for someone before we go home.  Our law license permits us to do that, but we would probably not be providing each client with the best possible service.

Bigger is not always better, either.  We do not have anything against large law firms – they have their place if you need an army of lawyers to wage your legal battles.  In our selected practice areas, however, we have the same capabilities and credentials as the big boys.  Our desire is to blend the expertise you normally associate with large law firms with the more convenient, personalized service that we can offer in a small firm.

What We Do

Our business is planning – estate planning, business planning and real estate planning.  Each of these areas of law are interrelated  Everyone should have a good estate plan, and unfortunately there is no escape from the inevitable day when you pass away and your loved ones get to find out just how good your estate plan is.  Many estate plans require more intricate planning for business interests and real estate holdings.  By concentrating our practice in these areas, we are able to provide our clients with better coordinated plans.

The mission of O'Diam, Stecker & Sove Law Group is to build lifetime relationships as our clients’ most trusted advisor.  Planning is not an isolated transaction.  It is an ongoing process that should evolve as your family or financial situation changes.  That requires a continuing connection with a legal advisor who knows your situation, understands your goals and is committed to helping you succeed.  It also requires someone who is willing to work with other advisors that you may have, to assure that all aspects of your plan are properly coordinated.  We can fill that need for you.

Our philosophy is that good planning requires mutual understanding.  So, our planning process involves education.  First, you need to teach us about your family or business, your hopes, dreams and fears, and the goals you want to accomplish.  Then we teach you about relevant law, the options available to you, and the advantages and disadvantages of each option.  Together, we can design an effective plan that works for you.  Our role is not to tell you what to do, but to equip you with the knowledge and understanding that you need to make an informed decision about how to plan for your unique circumstances.

The most common impediment to planning is not knowing where to start.  To address this, we have developed clear and understandable systems to guide you through the entire process.  We have tools to help you gather important information and to identify your goals and concerns.  We provide written materials to help you learn more about topics of concern to you.  Our systems are designed to help you navigate through difficult issues, and more importantly to alleviate your fear of even getting started.

Everything we do is centered on providing our clients with a meaningful and beneficial experience.  That is not an easy task given the complexity of legal and tax issues, and the general unpleasantness of the issues that our clients often hire us to address.  We strive to make sure that every client receives the highest degree of professional service in a convenient, friendly, relaxed and personable environment.

If you are looking for a big firm with hoards of attorneys who claim to be able to handle everything for everyone everywhere, we are probably not the right choice for you.  However, if you want a lasting relationship with someone you can trust – someone who will apply real life experiences and practical solutions to your planning problems – you’ve come to the right place.

Please visit the Practice Areas section of our site to learn more about the different areas in which we practice.  You can also find more in-depth information on specific legal topics in the Learning Center section of our website.
